When space is tight, the packaging next to impossible, and the cooling demands high (aka sportbikes), unique solutions to some old problems arise. Using a special core manufactured by Laminova, this water-to-oil cooler reduces and stabilizes the overall temperature of your engine's oil without needing to be placed in a direct path of air.
By efficiently transferring the heat between the coolant and engine oil, oil temps rise to operating conditions quickly upon startup and use the generous cooling capacity of the radiator system to dissipate extra heat when under load. We have seen drops in oil temperature between the inlet/outlet ports by as much as 15ºF with coolant temps over 200ºF.
Engine oil enters the housing and passes through hundreds of very thin aluminum channels on the outside of the Laminova heat exchanger. Because the fins that reside on the core are so thin and the gaps between them so narrow, the oil glides past them with laminar flow, sticking to the walls and transferring as much heat as possible to the aluminum core. As the coolant passes through the central core, the heat (thermal energy) is transferred from the hotter liquid to the cooler one, warming or cooling the oil depending on conditions.
